Do I need my own camera to join a workshop?

Yes, you'll need your own camera so you can practise on equipment you'll actually use afterwards. Any DSLR, mirrorless, or advanced compact camera with manual controls is suitable. If you're unsure whether your camera is a good fit for a particular workshop, get in touch before booking and we'll advise.

What's the difference between a group workshop and one-to-one tuition?

Group workshops are run for a small number of participants at once, combining teaching with the chance to learn alongside other photographers. One-to-one tuition is entirely tailored to you — your pace, your camera, your goals — and can be arranged around a specific subject, location, or genre you want to focus on.

I'm a complete beginner - will I be out of my depth?

Not at all. Most people who join our workshops are beginners or early improvers. Each session starts from the fundamentals — how your camera actually works — before building up to composition and creative technique, so nobody is left behind.

How many people are on each workshop?

Group workshops are kept small so everyone gets proper one-to-one attention from the tutor. Exact group sizes vary by workshop and are listed on each individual booking page. If you'd prefer fully individual attention, one-to-one tuition is also available.

How long does a typical workshop last?

Most workshops run for a half day or full day, though timings vary depending on the subject and location. The exact duration is always listed on the booking page for that specific workshop.

What will I actually learn?

It depends on the workshop, but sessions typically cover camera settings and manual controls, composition, light, and the specific techniques relevant to that genre — whether that's portrait, landscape, low light, or another area. You'll leave with practical skills you can use straight away, not just theory.

What should I bring with me?

When you book one of our days or workshops, we will send you a comprehensive guide which includes kit lists and clothing if applicable.

Do you run workshops in bad weather?

Outdoor workshops generally go ahead in most weather, since changing light and conditions are part of what you'll learn to work with. In the case of genuinely unsafe conditions, we'll contact you in advance to reschedule.

Will I get feedback on my photos after the workshop?

Yes. Tutors give feedback during the session itself, and many workshops include time afterwards to review images together and discuss what worked and what to try next.
